III. Calculating Tissue Cholesterol

Cholesterol in blood is bound to fatty acids and sequestered in packages, and therefore, inactive. These cholesterol-carrying packages, known as lipoproteins, hold the key to calculating Tissue Cholesterol™ activity.

The majority of cholesterol in the blood is carried in the two commonly known lipoproteins: LDL and HDL. LDL stands for low-density lipoproteins and HDL for high-density lipoproteins. The cholesterol and other lipids carried within the different lipoprotein carriers are virtually identical, so the difference between LDL and HDL is the carrier itself.

The LDL and HDL carriers are different, and the functions of the two carriers are, in fact, opposite. The LDL package delivers cholesterol to the tissues whereas the HDL package picks up cholesterol from the tissues. The amount of cholesterol in the tissues is a function of ratio of delivery to removal, known as the LDL/HDL ratio.

The LDL/HDL ratio alone cannot determine the amount of cholesterol in the tissues. The exchange between the blood and tissues is also dependent on the amount of cholesterol in blood, the total cholesterol.

Hence, Tissue Cholesterol™ (TsC) can be calculated by multiplying the total cholesterol (TC) by the LDL/HDL ratio:

TC X LDL/HDL = TsC

For example, ideal values (per Mayo Clinic) – 65 for LDL and HDL and 180 for TC- yield a TsC of 180:

180 X 65/65 = 180

BUT there is a major caveat to address here:

The Health Equations database of over 25,000 analyses of lipid panels, in conjunction with chemistry profiles and CBC’s, indicate the ideal value for LDL is 115, for HDL is 55 and for TC is 190. Using these values the LD/HDL ratio is 2.1 and the TsC is 399:

190 X 2.1 = 399

The range for TsC according to the Health Equations database is 293 to 505.

Ever-increasing stress, exposure to environmental and food toxins and medications invariably ignite unprecedented inflammation. If you aspire to or achieve the industries standards for your TC, LDL and HDL blood results, your inflammatory response is much more likely to run amok sooner rather than later. As discussed in the next article, “Tissue CholesterolTM: The Essential Anti-Inflammatory”, unbridled inflammation is the seed of just about every symptom and disease.
